Apple is getting a stiff competition from other smartphone makers like Samsung. For months now, they are growing neck to neck and dominating two competitive sectors of smartphones. Their rivalry has gone bitter since Apple sued Samsung for copyright infringement. Apple won the USA round. Samsung won many other rounds. The battle is still going on.

The battle reflects on another front too. The rate at which both the companies are innovating to win customers. If Samsung comes up with air gesture, Apple comes up with local file transfer. Apple brings on iOS6 and quickly Samsung releases Jelly Bean based models.

Even if we check the phone release lifecycles, we can see a very competitive pattern. Apple launches two models a year. One original like Apple iPhone 5 and then one improved version of the same like Apple iPhone 5S. Similarly, Samsung comes up with two major versions of its flagship product, the Samsung Galaxy.
